A Beautiful Dream by: Rosa Troy, Collage/Acrylic, 2018
You done messed up now
Jumping around was all fun and games until
she wakes up.
Now she‘s coming for you, and you know momma
has la chancla.
You’re starting to panic now.
The hair on your arm raises.
You’re losing your breath, your hands start to sweat.
It’s too late to run! She knows you’re clearly frightened,
and that only gives her more strength!
She raises her arm, wielding la chancla in its leathery fury,
the aerodynamic footwear comes down with momma’s arm
like lighting in a summer storm.
La chancla flies, cutting through the air at supersonic speeds.
La chancla makes its contact, this time your leg,
stinging like a mad hornet. Quit fooling around can’t you see I’m working nights?!
The room is silent. Peace is restored.
